I got a distinction in my grade 7 piano exam yesterday!
I spent a full nine months (All my other grades took only six, and some of the earlier ones 3-4) working on the horrible thing. But I've finally done it!
I played Scarlatti's Sonata in E, Mendelssohn's Song without words, Op. 19 No.1 and Florentine Mulsant's Prelude No. 14. I also managed, miraculously, to not botch my sight-reading (miraculous).
I've never really thought of piano-exams as being particularly fun, but as I progress through the levels and start playing pieces I actually enjoy, I've almost- almost- begun to think that maybe their not so horrible after all. Even if, I'm constantly being reminded of my cousin, who's a year younger than me, taking her ARSM next year... Anything's better than studying the electromagnetism behind dc generators, right?
I almost wish we were back in the nineteenth century, when young ladies didn't have to take exams on their accomplishments or do any Physics whatsoever. But, then, really I do love physics-- if only they'd keep the electromagnetism out of the syllabus! And piano exams are better than performances... good luck with keeping me from blabbering my pains the next time a school soiree musicale comes up!
In addition to all that pianoforte, I also managed to get some writing in- 1063 words of June Lilies, and a critique on critique circle.
I can also confirm that your first fashion post is in order... keep your eyes out; it'll be coming very soon!
How have your writing and musical adventures been going? Anyone else doing grade 7 piano? Maybe you even have an exam coming up... in which case, Good Luck!
